Description

Equine Sports Massage is the therapeutic application of Swedish Massage techniques
to relax or stimulate the muscle tissue of the equine. Horses from all disciplines can
benefit from massage and it is not restricted to competition equines only.

Massage can help prevent injury, enhance performance, prepare for competition,
reduce post competition recovery time, help prevent muscle fatigue and assist in recovery and rehabilitation post injury.

Benefits of Equine Sports Massage

Increase circulatory flow
Help prevent onset of muscle fatigue
Relax/stimulate the muscles
Reduce post competition recovery time
Relieve tension/spasm/reduce pain
Improve mobility & flexibility of joints
Improve muscle tone
Improve lymphatic drainage
Break down scar tissue and adhesions
Assist with tissue waste removal
Prepare muscle for activity
Improve range of movement
Assist recovery from injury
Improve suppleness

When should I use Equine Sports Massage?

Following are some of the indications that massage could be of benefit to your horse.

One sided, preferring one rein
Agitated when groomed or girthed up
Difficulty striking off on one leg
Difficulty engaging hind quarters
Disunited canter
Pulling out stiff
Poor performance on one diagonal
Reduced level of work output to normal
Cold backed
Extended recovery period to normal
Resistance to exercise
On box rest or restricted work

It can take approximately 90 days for muscle injuries to become apparent, so help prevent injury or fatigue in your horse by incorporating massage therapy into their regular routine.

I hold an ITEC Diploma for Equine Massage and was trained by the world renowned Mary Bromiley. I also hold an ITEC Diploma for Holistic massage for humans.
